AI Policy for Editorial Work

Last Updated: Dec 3, 2025

My AI policy is simple: I don’t use generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools or programs in my editing process, and I’d like to know if you used a generative AI tool to write or edit your manuscript. For editing tools that I use which contain AI features, I turn off those settings. I will not upload your manuscript (in whole or part) to a generative AI platform or use an AI tool on it.

The programs I use to support editing work are: Word, Adobe Acrobat, Vellum, Intelligent Editing's PerfectIt, and Preview for Mac.

I prioritize working with writers who use their own creativity and imagination to write and revise their work. If you have used AI to write or self-edit, when you reach out please let me know what programs you used, including Grammarly, AutoCrit, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, etc., what stage of writing you used the program for, and how you used it. The more details you can give me the better! I am committed to ensuring that writers are producing high-quality, original work, and this may still be the case even if you used AI as part of the process, but I need to know as much as I can about your usage, primarily for copyright concerns.

AI is an ever-evolving technology and I will do my best to stay up to date on guidelines from publishing industry leaders. For more on artificial intelligence and the writing and publishing industry, check out The Author's Guild.
