One-on-One Consultations
Bespoke guidance for writers and editorial business owners
By appointment
Sometimes a blog post, guide, or Google search can answer your question. Other times, you need the opportunity to talk through the specifics of your manuscript, publishing journey, or editorial business with someone who understands the industry.
That’s what my one-on-one consultations are for.
Before You Book
I want you to get the information you need without paying for a consultation if you don’t have to! Before booking, I recommend exploring the free resources available on my website.
-
Subscribe to my newsletter to receive The Editing Journey, my free guide answering some of the most common questions authors have about editing and publishing.
-
You can also browse my editorial blog and Resources page for advice on writing, editing, publishing, and working with an editor.
-
If you’re looking for recommendations for publishing professionals, organizations, and other helpful tools, start with my blog post “Must-Have Publishing Resources.”
Still have questions—or need advice specific to your situation? That’s where a one-on-one consultation can help.
Writer Consultations
Have a question about your manuscript that a blog post just can’t answer? A Writer Consultation gives us dedicated one-on-one time to talk through your writing project and the particular challenges you’re facing. We might discuss an element of writing craft, troubleshoot a problem in your manuscript, talk through the editing or publishing process, or identify your best next steps. You’ll also have the option to submit up to 15 pages of your manuscript for me to review ahead of time if you’d like our conversation to include feedback on your writing. The goal is simple: to give you personalized, practical guidance so you leave our conversation with greater clarity and a plan for moving forward.
Editor Business Consultations
Building a freelance editing business comes with questions that don’t always have one-size-fits-all answers. An Editor Business Consultation gives you dedicated time to talk with an experienced freelance editor about your business, goals, and challenges. Depending on what you need, we might discuss your services and pricing, finding and working with clients, marketing, workflows and processes, professional development, or the realities of running an editorial business. Whether you’re just getting started or looking for guidance on your next stage of growth, we’ll focus our time on the areas that will be most useful to you and identify practical next steps you can put into action.
How Consultations Work
Consultations are available in two lengths:
30-Minute Consultation — $149
Best for a focused question or one or two specific topics.
60-Minute Consultation — $249
Best when you have several questions, want to dig more deeply into a manuscript or business challenge, or simply need more time to talk things through.
Meetings take place over Google Meet, and you’re welcome to choose whichever format makes you most comfortable: video or audio only.
As part of the booking process, you’ll complete a short questionnaire about your project, questions, and goals for our conversation. I’ll review your responses before we meet so I can come prepared and we can spend our time together focused on what matters most to you. If you submit a portion of your manuscript ahead of the consultation I"ll also read through it and provide you with some inline comments.
There's no predetermined agenda here—just dedicated time to talk through your questions and figure out where you go from here.
