How Editorial Service Works
This is a glimpse at how the manuscript review, booking, and editorial services process works for most clients. For more details, check the FAQ page.
1
Fill out the contact form
Start by filling out the contact form. That's the best way to get in touch with me.
2
Check your inbox
I use HoneyBook for client management, and sometimes their emails can be sent to your spam folder. Be sure to check! After filling out the contact form, you'll receive an email from me within 24 hours with service details and my availability.
3
Receive a Custom Manuscript Masterplan
The Custom Manuscript Masterplan gives me the chance to look over your entire manuscript and provide immediate feedback and accurate suggestions for the type of editorial services your manuscript may need. It is the best way to get to know an editor!
4
Review editorial feedback
Look over the comments, suggestions, and feedback contained in your Custom Manuscript Masterplan report. If I make suggestions for more substantive or developmental edits, I'll point you in the direction of high quality and trusted colleagues who offer this service.
5
Put together an editorial package
Once you've looked over the Custom Manuscript Masterplan feedback, and if you feel that you and I share the same vision for your book, and you'd like me to edit your book, we'll discuss putting together a service package that best fits your needs.
6
Book services
To book editorial services, I will send you a booking file with a proposal summarizing the details of service and pricing, as well as a standard service agreement and invoice for the first payment. The service agreement must be signed and the first payment received in order to book services.
7
The work begins
If you have made changes since receiving your Custom Manuscript Masterplan, make sure to resubmit your full manuscript via the HoneyBook client portal. Otherwise, line- and copyediting work will begin on the specified date in the agreement. In most cases, the client is expected to revise and accept/reject changes within an agreed upon amount of time before returning the document for proofreading services.
8
Final payment and manuscript returned
Once all services are complete, the final payment is due and the manuscript is returned to the client. Clients will still need to accept/reject changes for proofreading service unless they have booked formatting (fiction books only).
9
Follow up
Check your inbox one last time for a short client satisfaction survey and an opportunity to leave a testimonial. Clients will also be able to subscribe to my email list at this time for future business and editing news and updates.
